The CCSC embarked on two projects related to training and competency in critical care. They are:
1. Internal Medicine Critical Care Subspecialty Milestones
2. Educational Pathways in Internal Medicine for Critical Care
The two complementary activities are described in more detail below.
Internal Medicine Critical Care Subspecialty Milestones
This group will produce curricular milestones for pulmonary and critical care medicine along with Entrustable Professional Activities (defines work that a physician does in daily practice) that would link to the milestones. These will be used by training programs during their evaluation process of trainees.
Educational Pathways in Internal Medicine for Critical Care
This group will define the differences in two of the three approved pathways leading to certification in Critical Care Medicine via the ABIM – the two year Critical Care Fellowship and the three year Pulmonary Critical Care Fellowship – to determine what specific requirements and differences have led to the current situation and to recommend common ground.
